Real Betis midfielder Isco Alarcon impressed once again during the encounter with Real Madrid at home but the Spaniard did complain about the way football is going.
Isco, 31, played all 90 minutes and was one of Betis’ best players on the field as the midfielder helped the home side control the tempo of the game.
Both teams shared a point in an intense match after which Isco talked to the reporters and expressed his discontent over the growing role of referees in modern football.
“We all complain a lot. I don’t like the way football is going, with shows dedicated entirely to referring decisions. The game of football is beautiful, and we can’t waste time discussing whether the referee should have blown or not. What we need to do is concentrate on football,” Isco said.
Isco was disappointed with his miss at the end as his header hit the post, had that ball gone inside the goal, Betis could’ve jumped one place to the six position.
“With how close we were at the end, it could have been even better, but it was a fair result,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Isco, during his peak, was one of the best attacking midfielders in football. The midfielder joined Real Madrid in 2013 after a spectacular spell at Malaga where he clinched the Golden Boy award for guiding the underdogs to the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-finals.
Isco, during his time with Real Madrid, won five UCL and FIFA Club World Cup titles and three La Liga and as many UEFA Super Cups.
He played 353 matches for Los Blancos where he scored 53 goals and provided 57 assists. However, his most notable time with the club was during the manager Zinedine Zidane, who made history by winning three successive UCL titles.
Isco was key to Zidane’s legendary 4-4-2 diamond formation as he was at the center of everything due to his role as an attacking midfielder. He started in two UCL finals under Zidane, 2016/17 and 2017/18, and was a substitute in 2015/26.
